Merry Christmas & Vintage Distressed Holiday Card

Sunday, December 26th, 2010

I apologize for Feedburner ‘kicking out’ two old posts from October yesterday–that’s not the first time, I know.

I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas and as a gift to my loyal followers, I am sharing a step-by-step PDF on how to make this lovely vintage distressed Christmas card (click on the graphic below to download the directions sheet).

I’ve had a LOT of fun with the new Distressing Kit that we carry! And it lent itself well to the awesome ‘Christmas Collage’ background stamp (#121279).

Stampin Up! Christmas Collage Stamp

And you can’t tell from looking at the card, but after coloring and distressing, I spritzed it with the shimmer mist we now sell.

I have attached the step-by-step instructions PDF on how I did this card and it includes all the supplies that were used as well.

Peaceful Season Debossed Christmas Card

Peaceful Season Christmas Card

I am TRULY sorry that this awesome Level 2 hostess set ‘Peaceful Season’ from the Holiday Mini Catalog will likely not be back again (hostess sets usually aren’t).  I would take this as your excuse to go nuts and spend $300 in Stampin’ Up! products just to get it (don’t worry, your husband told me it’s okay, remember he did that ‘weekend’ thing with the guys so fair is fair, LOL!).

'Engraved Debossed' techniqueThis is actually ‘my take’ on a photo of a swap that I didn’t get at the Baltimore regional–my girlfriend got it.  I would have TOTALLY knocked people over to get it, as it is, I was just happy to get a photo of it.

To get that background, I took a white crafters ink and pressed it to the ‘relief’ textured side of the Vintage Wallpaper embossing folder Crumb Cake cardstock rectangle through it.  Try not to get too much white on the background, but if you do it just adds to the almost ‘pewter’ look of the Crumb Cake cardstock with the white crafter’s ink.

Stampin' Up!'s Peaceful Season Level 2 Hostess SetI made the ‘debossed’ cardstock as a layer to make the card was more sturdy.  And just a warning that the Antique brad holding the ribbon in place is beautiful but between the two, it will totally cost you more to mail… this is the type of card that I would put on top of a gift (without even an envelope).  I’m such a showoff!

Tags Til Christmas Embossed Christmas CardThis layered and embossed Christmas card has a lot of detail but is deceptively easy to make assembly line style.

Of course you need your Sizzix Big Shot… (I can’t live without it) I used the new Northern Flurry embossing folder on the background vanilla and of course the jumbo snowflake die.

And as a ‘paper savings’ trick, the gold strip above and below the designer paper down the middle, is actually two thin punched strips of Brushed Gold paper tucked behind the center strip.  Hey, I have to *really* like you to get a card with our Brushed Gold paper.

Bells & Boughs Victorian Christmas Card

Thursday, November 4th, 2010

Okay, here’s another reason not to miss my Fall Rubber Stamp Festival each year!

This year, the set was ‘Bells & Boughs‘ and all projects featured that and the ‘Deck the Halls‘ designer series paper from the Stampin’ Up! Holiday mini catalog. This was one of the four projects.

I am absolutely in LOVE with the new ‘Crumb Cake’ paper and ink!  Doesn’t it look fabulous with those colors?

Bells & Boughs Stampin' Up! sampleI have shared the recipe and step-by-step instructions  below.  Click the graphic below to download:

Good Cheer Paper Bag Gift Keeper

Paper Bag Gift Bag made with Good Cheer & Deck the Halls Designer PaperPaper Bag Gift Bag made with Good Cheer & Deck the Halls Designer Paper

I’d say that this paper lunch bag never looked so good!

I love the ‘rustic’ colors in the ‘Deck the Halls’ designer series paper and have used them in the color scheme of this easy ‘paper bag’ gift bag.

I have included a short photo step-by-step of how this bag was made (click images for larger view):

  1. Cut the paper down to 5 3/4 inches high.  Line the back of the paper bag with a  5 inch by 8 inch piece of Artichoke cardstock, scored at 6 inches
  2. Line the front of the bag with a 6 x 5 inch piece of Artichoke cardstock
  3. Adhere a 4 3/4 x 5 3/4 piece of designer paper to the front artichoke panel and punch half a jumbo circle
  4. Adhere a 5 3/4 and 2 1/4 piece of designer paper to the top panel and wind a 20 inch piece of hemp around the top and tie a knot
  5. Adhere the central image as shown.  Use Sticky Strip to adhere it, since it will take some abuse (opening and closing).  If you want the bag to stay shut, you can use Velcro dots.

Central Image:  I didn’t want the focal image to be too ‘white’ but I did need Santa to stand out.

  • Stamp the image on both Vanilla and on Crumb Cake.
  • Trim the Crumb Cake image around the holly (leaving at least 1/8th inch).
  • On the Vanilla image, color and cut out Santa and the reindeer.  Ahere Santa to the Crumb Cake image right over the other Santa, adhere the reindeer with Dimensionals.
  • Extra step:  I stamped an additional Santa on Vanilla and cut out only the head (down to and including the mustache) and adhere it with Dimensionals.

Enjoy the gift bag idea!
