ClassicChristmasTree

ClassicSideview

I love the ‘tent’ style cards… especially if you don’t have much to say!  Okay, just KIDDING!

The ‘base’ of the card is 4 1/4 x 7 1/2 folded and a 3×4 inch piece of designer series paper covers the front of it.  I used my favorite ‘finial press’ embossing folder as usual and that combined with the wide satin ribbon makes this very elegant.

You can’t see the fine lines of glitter along the vertical stripes of the tree, but take my word for it, looks FABULOUS!

Cardinal Christmas Card

Tuesday, October 13th, 2009

Cardinal ChristmasI love birds and Cardinals are one of my favorites, especially for Christmas!

This very easy card was made with the ‘Merry Moments’ Designer Series Paper (#115672) that I have had a LOT of fun with.  And this was one of my quick Christmas Cards from my ‘Christmas Card Class/Club’ in September.

The card design is a paper saver and a money saver… if you notice, the designer paper is ‘inside’ the vanilla card.  Cards are less expensive to make if you can start with our Whisper White (or in this case) Very Vanilla… one pack of 40 sheets will make 80 cards for only $7.50 and working with a 4 inch wide area, saves on designer series paper waste.

For example, the 4×3 panel of vanilla on red swirl pattern will make 12 panels from one sheet of 12 x12 designer series paper.  If you went ‘edge-to-edge’ the extra 1/4 inch would waste a lot of designer paper.   The stripe is 4×2 inches and you can imagine how many of them you can get from one sheet of dsp… and I got away with using less by putting it on solid paper (stripes on a stripe of red).

Dashing Dasher Christmas Card

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

DasherThis is most likely going to be my Christmas Card this year!  And it took only one $8.95 stamp called ‘Dasher’ (#116816).

This is another one of my Christmas Card Class/Club creations from last week’s September class and I believe that there is only one spot left for my October Class if at all.

You can see my August & September Christmas Card classes and download the supply list here. You can also order the step-by-step instructions for those class ‘in the mail’ on the same page.

This was a very simple card to actually make, the only ‘work’ was embossing the deer (and that was a snap).

The new Designer Series Specialty paper is Christmas Cocoa from the Holiday Mini Catalog and features flocking on some of its paper.  Very cool and very interesting colors… the snowflake design coordinates well with the Sahara Sand cardstock and the striped paper pulls in some red for flair.

Materials:

5 ½ x 8 ½ Whisper White cardstock
Two – 2 ¾ x 3 ¼ Whisper White cardstock
2 ½ x 3 in. Sahara Sand cardstock
2 x 4 inch white cardstock (top pressed strip)
1 x 4 inch Sahara Sand cardstock (#105328)
½ x 4 inch striped DSP – Christmas Cocoa  (#116770)
4 x 3 inch snowflake patter DSP – Christmas Cocoa Spec.2 x 2 inch red cardstock (for the snowflake)
Jumbo Snowflake Punch (#116628)
White Embossing Powder, Versamark, Heat Tool
Square Fire Brads (#109112)
Textured Impressions Embossing Folder ‘Finial Press’ (#115963)

Special FX background technique

Wednesday, July 29th, 2009

Receive this via email and can’t see the video? Click here to view it.

As promised, my video on the Special FX background (aka, ‘Direct to Paper’ technique) using Stampin’ Up! Crafter’s inks, Pearl Ex powders and Stampin’ Up!’s Iridescent Ice embossing powder (#101930).

Good Cheer Special FX backgroundTo recap what’s on the video in terms of supplies:

The card is using the Good Cheer set (#115326), the pine trees are from the new holiday set ‘Scenic Season’ and Winter Post (both on pg.35 in Stampin’ Up!’s new idea book & catalog).

The Stampin’ Up! crafter’s inks used are Whisper White, Always Artichoke, More Mustard and So Saffron.  I stamped the focal image in Black StazOn on Very Vanilla paper and colored in gently with the Stampin’ Up! Earth Elements Watercolor Crayons and an Aquapainter.

Good Cheer Special FX background card 'Detail Shot'I used Gold Encore pad sponged on to antique the edges.  I used iridescent rhinestones (2 sizes for effect) and Stampin’ Up!’s Chunky Sprinkles glitter which adds maximum iridescent sparkle!

A few years back, I posted samples using this ‘direct to paper’ technique here.  The posts leads to step by step instruction of this background technique… you can see it here.

You can buy an awesome set of Pearl Ex pigment powders from Dharma Trading online HERE (this is exactly the first set I ever purchased).  They are also my favorite source for fabrics for stamping and painting on.Good Cheer watercolor detail closeup

Hope you enjoyed the video… I am such a spaz… I have bruises on my arms, they aren’t dirty, LOL… I just walk into things.  [This is the problem with me being so OC about these videos... if I waited for perfect, you'd never see them!]

Keep Christmas Simple Holiday Card

Thursday, November 20th, 2008

I just love the story ‘A Christmas Carol’ so this purchase was a no-brainer!  I own at least 4 versions of this story (the musical one, a serious one with Geo. C Scott, as well as Muppet Christmas Carol and Scrooged).  I know, I’m a strange person, but I saw a version I don’t know at Borders and had to force myself not to buy it!

Keep Christmas Holiday Card

This is the fastest, easiest formula for quick card using our Designer Series paper in a  2/3 and 1/3 type of layout (the top stripe is 2" x 4" and the bottom 3" x 4" (see "pattern" left)

I use this a LOT and you get quite a few cards from a 12×12 piece of Designer Series paper.  This paper used ‘Parisian’ is so beautiful and immediately the tone on tone burgundy pattern (on the bottom) it looked like Christmas to me!

Simple ‘recipe’:

Set: Keep Christmas, Access; Bravo Burgundy cardstock, Parisian Designer Series Paper, Burgundy wide grosgrain ribbon, Black StazOn, Watercolor crayons (Earth Elements plus Bravo Burgundy crayon from Rich Regals)

Okay, so my class this evening features quick Christmas card layouts using all types of our Holiday (and non-Holiday) DSP.

Don’t miss my Sat., Dec. 6 all-day stamping Extravaganza… check out my calendar for more information.

Gold on Gold Embossing – Christmas Card

Wednesday, November 12th, 2008

I absolutely *love* the uniqueness of Stampin’ Up!’s ‘brushed gold’ paper… I’ve never seen it anywhere else.  The look of gold embossing on our brushed gold is quite striking (see second photo).

Gold on Gold Embossing - Christ is Born

You need to see a photo of it on an angle to appreciate its beauty!

The set is the new "Christ is Born" which is bold enough to be embossed (finer print actually *doesn’t* emboss clearly).  Card is Riding Hood Red and the DSP is the poinsettia print from "Holiday Treasures".

The poinsettia stamp is surprisingly from the "Christ is Born" set… I say ‘surprisingly’ because I don’t know that I like a poinsettia flower in a religious set.  I would have preferred a less secular image… but that’s just me.

I inked the poinsettia in Ruby Red (pad), added detail with a Bravo Burgundy marker and then colored the berries in Mustard after wiping off the red.

This is a totally easy card!
