Chocolate–My other obsession…

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Chocolate HouseWhere have I been?  Well, up to my elbows in chocolate… which is a family tradition for the Celona family.

For about 20 years now, I have made candy as gifts to friends and neighbors (that live near enough to deliver by hand).  I have included not only the photo, but an ‘extreme’ closeup (when you click on it).

I say that I make it, but it is truly a family affair and there are no shortage of teenage girls these days to help with chocolates to be made. Making chocolate houses...

My daughter Katherine who was ’tiling’ the roof with non-pareils, the walls were molded by my daughter Sarah & her friend Brittany.   And you can see below also the ‘before & after’ shots of the houses in construction. Read More→

Easy Holiday Money Holder

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

A recent request for a quick money card holder made me realize that I never posted this!  You can click on the image below for a larger picture.

Holiday Lineup Deer Money Holder

This pattern is an oldie (and suspiciously similar to the pattern as used here).

You can use the step by step (above) and if you need more information about the cutting and scoring, I have a tutorial online HERE (in my Project Gallery).

I love Holiday Lineup… especially the reindeer… they are all looking at Rudolf like they are either confused or they want to strangle him!  If you have a big family or just familiar with the hassle of working in large groups, you’ll definately understand this!

Holiday Lineup is an adorable 3 stamp set for $21.95 (item #111648).   C’mon, you KNOW you want it!

Crazy for Cupcakes Gift Card holder

Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008

This is one of the birthday sets that is 20% off this month for Stampin’ Up!’s birthday sale!  I let the DSP Bella Rose determine the color of the stamped images (I had a bunch of scraps left over from cards I was making).

Crazy for Cupcakes Gift Card Holder

Crazy for Cupcakes insideIt’s a *very* simple gift card holder to make and it took a VERY small amount of the designer series paper… in fact, I used the wide grosgrain to hide the fact that they don’t quite meet up under the ribbon!

The background (Chocolate Chip) is 4 x 4 1/2 inches and the So Saffron is 3 3/4 x 11 inches scored at 4 1/4 and 8 1/2 inches (folded up and punched with a half circle and held closed with mini silver brads).

The front of this gift holder is only 3 3/4 x 4 inches, so you can literally use scraps for it (as well as the punched elements again are from scraps).

This is easy enough for kids to make for their friends.  I let my kids make this type of thing on ‘rainy days’ and use them for parties they go to (and then they are made already!).

Birthday Gift Keeper

Thursday, May 29th, 2008

<– Click on the graphic (left) to download the directions for this easy gift holder that you can get three of from one piece of 8 1/2 x 11 paper!  I made some matching lollipop covers and made a flower from Smarties the same way I made the focal flower on the gift keeper.

This simple ‘gift keeper’ was made with the beautiful new set "Kind Thoughts" (which punches out a lovely flower with the scalloped circle punch),  Baroque Motifs (an ‘old friend’ of mine) and Circle of Friendship.  The color scheme is Ballet Blue, Rose Romance, Pretty in Pink & Certainly Celery… a great color combination.  Download the step-by-step to making these.

I made a birthday one as well, however I think that the kids got to it because I left the mini-Hershey bar in it… my fault I guess!

I will upload the one I made with "Big Birthday Candle" when it surfaces, I really liked that one even better!

Let me know what you think!

Halloween Candy Holder

Monday, September 24th, 2007

Halloween Candy HolderThis fun little candy holder was one of my Stamp-A-Stack projects this past week. Don’t miss my monthly "Stamp a Stack of Stuff"! The inspiration came from a gift card holder that I’ve made in the past (the finished product is only 3 1/4 x 4 1/2). However the unique ‘closure’ uses the ‘Batty for You’  spider adhered with a black brad, allowing the top fold to hold itself closed was a great idea I got from a recent swap (forgot the gal’s name–I can’t find the swap!). Updating it for Halloween, I made the fold over ‘gusseted’ by adding a 1/4 inch wide panel in the middle of the 6 x 4 1/4 inch Mustard fold over.  That way it could hold something 3D–in this case the fun Candy Holder Opensized candy!  The cover is "Spooky Skyline" rolled in black on Wild Wasabi (green) and the spooky skyline was helped out by tearing and the addition of a torn strip of vellum cardstock.  The witch (from ‘Home is Where the Haunt Is’) was stamped on Always Apricot, punched and then sponged again (in Apricot) for the whole "cloudy night sky" effect–I don’t know if you can tell!  Oh yeah, I couldn’t resist the great boogly eyes added to the spider–I’m a sucker for that stuff!

Thankful Season – Large “Open End” Envelope

Tuesday, September 11th, 2007

Thankful Season envelope trickAgain with the envelopes (and my new favorite set).  I want all you ladies out there who are rushing to your demonstrator to purchase this set to let your rep know she can Paypal me 10% of her commission, LOL! The envelopes that I used are the same ones in my last post, they are the Large Open End Envelopes.  They come in white and vanilla.  I put the link to them because I was getting so many questions about where I got them… duh! Stampin’ Up! Close the envelope (by licking it shut), cut the top 4 inches off and embellish (I do tend to ‘over-do’).  Stamp and then corrugate the bottom so that it ends up slightly smaller than the top. You’ll find it now fits in nicely into the top to hold a gift certificate or money. I generally make more of these at the holiday time for Christmas gift certificates and I’ll be sharing my snowman ones soon. I guess I should go to bed now…

Thankful Season “Envelope Trick” (Updated)

Saturday, September 8th, 2007

Thankful Season done with 'Large Open End Envelopes This neat little ‘envelope trick’ idea was given to me by my wonderful & talented friend Amanda Coughlin from whom I steal ideas from all the time!  She made a card with insert like this last spring for a swap.  Of course I run with her great ideas (and then unfortunately I am the one remembered for them not her!).  Leave her a sympathy message on her blog, LOL! UPDATED INFO –The envelope is the Stampin’ Up! "Large Open-End Envelope" which is 9 1/2 x 4 1/8 (Order #170285 for Vanilla, but it also comes in white)–END UPDATE.  Okay, I have been asked how it is colored:  I used watercolor crayons (outlining the detail) and blending it with the Aquapainter, being careful to wipe it off often so that I don’t overrun each color.  It is not as tedious as it sounds, really!  The leaves, however, were sponged with More Mustard and Always Artichoke with sponge daubers and I did use the Elegant Eggplant crayon in spots around the outer edge and blended it out to make the shadows.  Be sure not to overcolor… leave white space and don’t go too heavy on color.  The beauty of it is in the artwork of the stamp, the color should complement not overtake it.  I have been asked to share a 5 minute Workshop WOW next Saturday at the Philadelphia Regional and I have decided to do what I lovingly refer to as "Cheap Envelope Tricks"… I almost always show cool things you can make with an envelope at workshops.  I will be sharing them here as well.  To My Customers:  ask me about an "All Wrapped Up" workshop showing quick and inexpensive gift and packaging ideas with rubber stamps and decorative papers!
