Gift Bag from a 12×12 Designer Series Paper

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

In the video, I not only show this easy folding method to an excellent gift bag/purse, but also the watercolor techniques that I used to color this awesome ‘Victorian’ Santa.

Celebration of Sizzix Box #2

Stampin' Up! Holiday Lounge from Sizzix Box #2 XL Die (click for larger image)HolidayLoungeBox#2OpenI am having a wonderful time in Salt Lake City and awards night last night was awesome!  Amanda C. and I walked across the stage as cruise achievers, woo hoo!

Well I am seeing some awesome ideas and will be sharing the pictures with you soon. But here’s a photo of a few of us walking across stage.

So, this Sizzix XL Die ‘Box #2′ has to be the absolutely *easiest* stinkin’ box to make!

This quick box is just Taken With Teal cardstock (6 x 11 inches) and a strip of the Designer Series paper ‘Holiday Lounge’ (#115676).  In fact it is one 1 1/2 inch strip of trees that I added some *bling* to.  The 5/8 inch white satin ribbon (#114616) is extremely elegant as a finishing touch that is secured onto the box top, so it opens without having to untie it.  SECRET: there is a strip of ribbon across the top secured underneath and the box is actually glued to the strip of satin (it uses less ribbon).

I have also made a purse with this box.  Below is the box decorated with (retired) Raspberry Tart designer series paper and a false foldover made from the Sizzix Bigz Die Scallop Circle #2.

Instead of tucking in, I have it velcro coin closure and embellished it Stampin’ Up’s new designer hardware… a silver ‘Jumbo Grommet’ (p. 179 in 2009-10 IBC).

Bigz XL Die ‘Look Here’ Birthday Pop Up Card

Stampin' Up! 'On A Pedestal' Birthday SetI’m having fun with the Bigz XL Die ‘Pop Up Look Here’ die for the Sizzix Big Shot… so much so that I wanted to share a short video clip on putting it together (for those of us who won’t read the directions that came with it!).  It is very difficult for me to publish a video.  Besides from the obvious (being a video challenged individual), I am terribly ‘Type A’ person (READ: it must be perfect) before I will publish it.  I need to let go of that (I’m working on it!).

Check out my ‘Video Channel’ AmyTV for all my videos!  Be kind in your feedback!

The card was made with Melon Mambo (pink) and Crushed Curry (yellow) and the Razzleberry Lemonade designer series papers.  The sets are the new ‘On a Pedestal’ set (#113814, set of 7) and the (dormant) Big Birthday Candle.

Immediately below are two small shots of the cards and under that a cool slideshow of the card at several angles (click here if you can’t see the slideshow).

I hope you enjoy this… I had a LOT of fun.  I am designing a Christmas pop up card for a ‘Christmas In July’ workshop I am doing on Saturday evening for one of my FAVORITE customers.  Okay, don’t you need a ‘Christmas’ themed in-home workshop?  Contact me if you are in the So. Chester Co. PA/northeast MD/DE area!

So… how did you like it?!

Bigz XL Die Box #2 purse

Tuesday, June 30th, 2009

NOTE:  The new 2009-2010 Catalog will be online today by 5:00 pm EST along with a Deal of the Week (which is a new special offer every week for the month of July) as well as an incredible $85 Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Starter Kit is coming later this month (you can read about that offer here).

Bigz XL Die Box 2I got the Bigz XL die ‘Box #2′ (order #114518) several months ago and wasn’t sure what to do with it.  The end result box wasn’t very large (approx. 4 in. wide, 2 inches high and 1 inch deep).

In fact, this Kiwi Kiss rectangular box sat on my desk for a few months until I realized that the Scalloped Circle 2 die made a nice fold over wrap and gee, it could be a pocketbook!

Another accessory that I haven’t used at all until now was the large grommet (I used a silver one).  The grommet is just pressed into the paper (you need a sponge pad–not your fingers behind it, LOL!).  Then just bang down the little (razer sharp) points to hold it in place.  A 1/2 inch punch of coordinating paper will finish the look of a button or fastener for the pocketbook.

Bigz XL Die Box 2The coordinating designer series paper that I used here is Raspberry Tart (which is retiring today), but there are simply GORGEOUS new papers coming in the new catalog!!!

And on that note, I have 5 cases of catalogs looking for loving homes… come to my New Catalog Open House for fun and free stuff on Thursday, July 23rd at 7:00 pm.  CLICK HERE to RSVP (this event will fill, so don’t delay).

Rose Accordion Fold Bookmark Card

Rose Bookmark Card Closed

Clearly I have a thing for this set ‘A Rose is a Rose’ (#111560, set of 14 stamps – $37.95).

UPDATED:  Since it was not a class, I don’t have a detailed handout, however in response to many requests, this was made with a 12 x 12 piece of Riding Hood Red cardstock, scored at 3 inch intervals.  I free cut the tops of each panel to appear to be bookmark.  I used a 12″ strip of the Candy Lane DSP inside and tacked it down, leaving space to use it as pockets.  I cut the inside bookmarks from scraps of vanilla and decorated the entire thing with stamped/cut images of the Rose is a Rose set.

This bookmark card was my ‘backup’ Mother’s Day card that I didn’t need to use.  At my April Stamp a Stack, my friends made a wider ’2-fold’ accordion fold bookmark card for the sake of saving time.

But nothing beats the four fold!  Accessories:  Riding Hood Red & Vanilla cardstock, Riding Hood Red, Pink Pirouette, Kiwi Kiss & Baja Breeze inks, Candy Lane Designer Series Paper and some grosgrain and tafetta ribbon.

I didn’t realize until after I photographed how much more striking this would be with ribbons at the top of each bookmark section… oh well… next time!

Below are thumbnails you can click on for larger images of the flowerpot ‘accordion’ card from different angles.  This card isn’t as hard as it looks!

Accordion Card Open (sideview)Enjoy this video… it seemed monotone to me, but I got up at 4am to tape so that the house would be quiet.  My voice sounds strange because I was trying to film and not wake anyone up!

So, am I getting better at video?  I’ve created an ‘AmyTV‘ page (which will pull all my videos together in one place).  Enjoy!

Video – Paper Pin Technique

Rose Paper Pin Butterfly Paper Pin

Click on any photo to start a slideshow.

Last month I received a gift of a lovely butterfly paper pin and scalloped circle book from Kelli Purkey and I just *HAD* to make that butterfly myself.

THANK YOU Kelli!  You all must go to her site and subscribe immediately (so I get brownie points and therefore more handstamped gifts…).

I completely devoured every detail of her finished pin… the butterfly from God’s Beauty (Level 1 Hostess Set) complete with rhinestone and wire embellishments on a pale plum cardstock (see below).

I decided to make my butterfly look like a ‘monarch’ butterfly and my daughter came down and picked up Kelli’s (purple butterfly, see below) and said “MOM! This is awesome, did you make it?!” to which I replied, “no, I made ALL the other ones… oh, go clean your room!”

Kelli Purkey Paper PinSo, you can see how beautiful Kelli’s pin is right down to the twisted wire antennae with rhinestones set (yeah, thanks Kelli… I’ll never get the Crystal Effects off my fingers!).

Enjoy the video that I made in ‘real time’… you are seeing the actual process as I was coming up with my May ‘Technique Freak’ club project for tonight (nothing like the last minute).  The video was shot with my new Sony Handycam and edited with Sony Vegas Studio Pro (which I taught myself yesterday)!
